Special Maintenance Group(SMG) in Jumla with personal protective equipment

RAP 3 changed her life

District:

Sampurna Buda, RMG member of Urthu-Dillichaur-Lamri road started shop with a loan of NRs. 36,500.00 She has a family of five members which include her husband and three children. Her husband is on foreign employment. She says that after working on RAP 3 she was able to clear almost all the loan that was initially invested on her shop. She is very happy on being able to afford quality education for her children.  The income generated from RAP3  has helped her to manage family expenditure very easily. She also said that after working with RAP 3 her family living standard has raised. Not only hers but also other members have been earning well and are happy to work with RAP 3.

Meeting conducted with relevant stakeholders

District:

On 12th April 2017 MoFALD Secretary Kedar Bahadur Adhikari visited Jumla to attend a meeting as a chief guest with relevant stakeholders. During the meeting, the impact of restructuring of state on the current DCC and other local bodies was discussed. All DCC and DTO staff along with GE and IE attended the meeting. Local Development Officer, Hari Narayan Belbase was chairperson of the meeting. Planning Officer, Laxmi Prasad Upadhyaya gave a small presentation on all the projects under DCC. During the presentation, physical progress and financial progress of RAP 3 was highlighted. RAP 3 supported material testing lab for DCC was also highlighted during the meeting and was highly appreciated by participants.

LDO visits Baghbazzar (63DR001)

District:

On April 5th 2017, Hari Narayan Belbase, LDO of Jumla district visited road 63DR001 together with GE and IE.  He travelled about 2 Km on bike and was very happy with the work conducted by RMGs on this road. He said that the condition of road was very poor during his last visit and now changes can be easily seen. He also said that now it will be easy for tractors to transport goods and people will be able to get rice and other goods easily. Further, he said that on this month while providing work plan to RMGs, he requested the team to construct drains and outlets on the road.

 

Utilization of RMG wage

District:

With the money earned from the wages working as an RMG member, Maku Rana, RMG member of the group of Acharily-Dhitali-Narakot (63DR003) has started a sweet shop located just at the end of the DRCN road. He is a single person without other family members and his shop opens only at morning and evening hours and he looked happy with his business. During discussion with him at his shop, he has taken time to thank RAP 3 and DCC for their contribution towards enhancing the lifestyle of all the RMG members of the group. He also said that he will work hard to earn profit from the starting business and will expand his shop in near future.

Sanikhola Micro Hydro Project meeting

District:

The user committee of Sanikhola Micro Hydro Project agreed all the terms as written on contract paper and finally signed it on 20th March, 2017. During the field visit on 7th March by DC Mahendra Shrestha and Safeguard Specialist Shankhar Pokharel, meeting was conducted and the users were undecided to whether to sign contract with RAP 3 as some other organization had also committed to rehabilitate the canal. Due to no conclusive decision made, the meeting asked the UC to provide a decision on signing the contract within a week. SAME Ram Krishna Sharma visited the site after a week later and a meeting was held. In the presence of all the members of existing user committee, a new committee was formed and contract was signed thereafter. 

Logistic and lab support to DCC/DTO under ASP

District:

To help DCC/DTO establish the quality assurance through a laboratory facility, RAP 3 Jumla had established a lab inside the DTO premises. The lab now has been combined with the DCC's lab with DCC procuring additional lab equipment. Under current ASP 2073/074 (2016/17), RAP 3 has provided furniture support to DCC/DTO lab. The furniture was handed over to the DCC/DTO. Also, under the ASP, RAP 3 has provided logistic support to DCC/DTO which included 2 laptops and a projector. The laptops and the projector were handed over to the Local Development Officer (LDO) Hari Narayan Belbase.

Lifestyle improvement

District:

Janmaya Bohara, RMG member and treasurer of the group of Upallorana - Urthu – Khali section (63DR008a), life has been improved drastically after she has been employed as a Road maintenance group worker by the DDC with financial support from RAP 3. With the money earned from the wages working as an RMG member, she has started a shop located just besides the DRCN road and now supports a family of 4 (1 son, and 1 daughter). Money earned from the shop along with her husband's income (remittance) and her wages, she has been able to send her children to a pretty decent school. During discussion with her at her shop, she has taken time to thank RAP 3 and DDC for their contribution towards enhancing the lifestyle of not only hers but all the RMG members of the group.

SMG mobilization

District:

After orientation to the Special Maintenance Groups (SMGs) and contract signing with the them on 11th, 12th and 15th February 2017, construction tools were distributed to the SMG members of Gachhusangu – Dhimichaur – Lekpor – Kotghar Road (63DR007), Jumla – Urthu – Khali – Bumramadichaur – Bulbule Road (63DR008b) and Chandannath – Garjyangkot – Guthichaur Road (63DR009a) on 21st of February 2017. SMG have been mobilized in the field at all the roads and have started construction works.  Gabion boxes have also been delivered by the supplier and will be distributed to the SMGs soon. In the meantime, they have been collecting stones for the respective sites.

SMG orientation

District:

To improve the system of User's Committee system and the proper selection of group members following standard procedure, RAP3 has started SMG piloting in 4 maintenance districts (Jumla, Dailekh, Doti, & Achham) which has targeted the selection of poor people who can work and earn cash. In the process, DTA Jumla has selected 76 workers from three DRCN roads for the implementation of SMG works. DTA Jumla provided one day theoretical orientation to those SMG workers followed by a day of practical demonstration of works.
