Study Tour from Laos

RAP3 are pleased to be co-hosting the upcoming study tour of eight prominent engineers and officials from the Poverty Reduction Fund, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Laos. The group are scheduled to visit Nepal between 5th – 13th November 2017 as invitees of MoFALD (Nepal) and DoLIDAR. The Study Group will focus on experiences gained in Nepal in Road Maintenance Groups (RMGs), Community Force Accounting (such as Road Building Groups, RBGs) and other current local road network planning and contracting approaches. The visit team are expected to visit example RMGs working in Sindhupalchowk on both SNRTP and RAP3 Programmes and have a series of interactive meetings with DoLIDAR, SNRTP, RAP3 and Poverty Alleviation Fund, PAF (Nepal).

Landslide clearance by Guthichaur Rural Municipality, Jumla

Guthichaur rural municipality worked on clearing landslide of 63DR009b to keep road open during festivals. The road was blocked by monsoon rain which could not be cleared by RMGs. The Rural Municipality hired a machine and cleared landslides in various sections of this road. The road is now open for traffic and RMGs are continuing their maintenance work on this road.

Gabion Work by DCC, Jumla

The DCC have constructed a gabion wall on DRCN road (63DR004). The road was closed since two months due to a landslide during monsoon. DCC previously constructed gabion wall on the same spot was completely collapsed due to poor backfilling. After the monsoon the wall was reconstructed and road made open to traffic. Around 25 vehicular movements a day, including tractors and motorbikes,  have been recorded after maintenance of the road. 

Completion of DCC meeting hall

Contract for the construction of Pre-Fabricated Meeting Hall on Roof Top of DCC Building Doti (RAP3/2017/013) was signed with J.R Construction on 2nd July 2017. The total contract amount was NRs. 1,598,696.88 including VAT.  The construction works has been completed and joint monitoring was carried out on 15th October 2017 by DTA Doti, DCC and contractor. The work of contractor is found satisfactory. The final payment certificate is being prepared and will be submitted to TMO for approval.

New GE joined RAP 3 DTA Dadeldhura

On 26th of October 2017, newly assigned GE Janak Kharel joined RAP DTA office in Dadeldhura. Janak who had previously worked in Achham was introduced to DTA, DTO and DCC staff and was briefed on the district progress status and works in hand by RTL.

Visit of SSDR (RAP 3) and Jitey-Hilsa road (Nepal Army) by Kalikot stakeholders

A team led by Badri Nath Gaire (CDO, Kalikot) together with Tarik Chandra Chaudhary (DSP, APF), Samir Shrestha (Captain), Sunil Singh (CAO), Kashi Chandra Baral (Mayor, Raskot Municipality), Tara Upadhyay (Vice President, Pachal Jharna R/Municipality) as well as representatives from other district offices and staff from Raskot Municipality visited RAP 3 road Sanighat - Sipkhana (64DR007) and Jitey- Hilsa Road, under construction by Nepal Army on 28th October 2017. EO RAP’s Ramesh Khatakho and GE Nisha Basnet joined the team. The team from Manma was arranged by Rara - Karnali Transportation Committee to extend route permit to Jarkot from Jitey.

Handover-Takeover of RMG works

GE Chetan Neupane has been rotated to Achham from Jhapa and GE Rishma Pokhrel has joined the district. Chetan handed over all the official documents related to RMG and improvement project of  Dudhe-Shivgunj and also made clear about the backup files to new GE. DTA team also introduced new GE to DCC/DTO officials. Handover-Takeover was done at DTA, Jhapa on 23rd October 2017.

Gabion wire test

RAP 3 DTA Achham performed the quality control test on machine made Gabion box wire of second consignment for SMGs work.  Sampling and testing were performed to examine if the quality of gabion box wire are as per the contractual standard technical specification. DTA conducted uniformity mass of zinc coating test and actual diameter check on all sizes of gabion box wire and observed the satisfactory result on mass of zinc coating test. The tests were conducted in accompany with RAP 3 SLT at DCC laboratory.

Hamri Didis continue trading during the monsoon thanks to credit from Unilever

Earlier this year 69 Hamri Didis received monsoon credit of NPR 945,000 from Unilever Nepal Limited. The short term credit enabled the Hamri Didis to stock-up and continue trading during the monsoon without being affected by access related disruptions in supply. 

This is the first time UNL has offered monsoon credit to Hamri Didis in the Mid & Far West and we’re delighted to confirm that all 69 women have successfully repaid their loans within the agreed credit period.

OMF obtains organic certification

Organic Mountain Flavor (OMF) has obtained organic certification of 133 hectares of land in Surkhet.  The certification, granted by ECOCert, covers land farmed by 366 ginger farmers in OMF's downstream supply chain.  These farmers will receive higher prices from OMF for the ginger they produce as, with organic certification, OMF is able to sell ginger at a premium price.
