KUSOM students arrive in Dailekh and Achham to complete rural enterprise service

Eight MBA students from Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM) have travelled to the Mid and Far West of Nepal to complete their three week Rural Enterprise Service (RES) placecments, facilitated by RAP3 CONNECT. The students will work with eight businesses in two districts, Dailekh and Achham, providing business consultancy services tailored to each business' needs.  

KUSOM MBA students are required to complete a three week RES placement as part of their MBA course.  This is the third batch of students to complete their RES placements with CONNECT.  To date, 25 businesses have received support from 22 students.  CONNECT identifies businesses and, in collaboration with KUSOM, matches the students to each business based on needs and students' areas of specialism or interest.

Jumla DCCI commit to increase female representation on Executive Committee

Jumla District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) has committed to increase the minimum number of reserved seats for women on their Executive Committee to 33%.

The DCCI tabled and agreed to pass RAP3 CONNECT’s policy reform “Female Representation on District Chamber of Commerce & Industry Executive Committees" recommending a minimum reservation of 33% for women members at their Annual General Meeting on 16th September 2018.

To date, Bajua, Dadeldhura, Dailekh and Doti DCCIs have passed the policy reform paper.  Last week, Doti DCCI held their first Executive Committee election since adopting the reform and successfully appointed 7 women to the Committee, exceeding the 33% minimum.

Young Entrepreneurs from Dailekh awarded NPR 50,000 for their business idea

Three young entrepreneurs, members of the CONNECT Future Entrepreneurs' Club (FEC) in Dailekh, were among participants at the YUNUS Social Business Challenge 2018 and were awarded investment of NPR 50,000 for their business plan “Hariyo Paat Sabaiko Saath”.

In total ten teams pitched their business ideas at the final round of the YUNUS Social Business Challenge held in Kathmandu on 26th August 2018, including two teams of FEC members.

RAP3 CONNECT partnered with YUNUS Social Business Centre (YSBC) to deliver business plan writing workshops for FEC members in Dhangadhi and Neplagunj and to link FEC members to new opportunities for learning and a wider network of aspiring entrepreneurs and mentors.  

CONNECT has establish two FECs, in partnership with National Academy of Science and Technology, Dhangadhi and Narayan Campus, Dailekh, to create platforms that inspire youth, enable them to develop business ideas and share with broader networks to access mentoring and incubation support.

DCCI Doti exceeds 33% target for women Executive Committee members

The District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Doti held its first Executive Committee election since amending their constitution to include a reservation of 33% seats for women on the Executive Committee.   

1114 members voted in the election on 8th September 2018, electing six women and nine men.  At the first meeting the outgoing President and two further Committee members, one male and one female, will be appointed. 

The newly formed committee will have 18 members,  39% of them women, exceeding the minimum reservation.
